Videography

Videography is the process of recording and editing multiple video clips then comprising them all into one video. Remember, good videos require less editing. When you are recording don’t be afraid to record one shot multiple times, because it is difficult to turn a bad recording into a good video once you begin the editing process.

Below are a few examples of videos that I have created and a few tips on how you can improve your video skills too!

WSLS 10 News Videography

Using a GoPro action camera and my trusty news camera I documented the ribbon cutting of Westside Elementaries brand new basketball court. In this video I incorporated natural sound and allowed the story to tell itself. I enjoy creating stories like this because they highlight the good work being done in my community.

I also made this video while working as a Videographer at WSLS 10 News. This segment was created in celebration of Black History Month and used on-air to honor the first African American women to ever be put on a U.S. quarter. I conducted each interview myself and I was also behind the camera recording each cutaway shot. I felt honored that I was able to play a small role advancing history and culture in this way.

Bridgewater College Promotional Video

This is a video that I scripted, staged, shot, and edited. It was a promotional video for my Masters Degree Program at Bridgewater College. In this video I did my best to create an impactful message that would be able to motivate the audience into action. My target audience for this video was current and former students of Bridgewater College and James Madison University. I believe short informational videos like this that focus on explaining the benefits are the best way to motivate audiences online. In this video I used Canva to create custom graphics and Premiere Pro to put the video together and animate transitions. The sliding effect was done by changing the position of the graphics using key frames in the effect controls panel in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Church Promotional Video

This is a video that I scripted, shot, and edited for the church I attended while in college. It felt really good to make content for a cause that I personally care about. I have to give a huge shoutout to https://matthewcosner.com/ for helping me with the drone footage in this video. One bit of advice, if you don’t have a certain piece of equipment or there is something you don’t know how to do, you can always call on your friends for a bit of free help. They might even teach you a thing or two in the process.

Digital Scholarship Gurus Video

This is a video I made for the job I had during my time at Bridgewater College, it highlights some of the creative skills that I was able to teach to other students. I created this video using both Adobe Premiere Pro and Motion Array. Each of the transitions and text effects you see in this video were accessed through the Motion Array marketplace. The text graphics were made in Canva and the stock footage was downloaded from pexels.com. Using stock footage is a good way to create a high quality video when you are short on time or have a low production budget.

Habitat for Humanity Time-lapse Video

This is a video I made for a school project in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity. I started this video by recording long videos of the workers building the house. In Premiere Pro, I was able to turn these videos into a time-lapse by increasing the speed/duration of each clip to 2000% and lowering the frame rate to 1. After clicking the sequence tab and rendering each selection I was able to easily edit this video and add in the Habitat for Humanity logo.

Local Dog Business Promotional Video

This is a video that I made to promote my cousin’s dog kennel business. I used music and many different graphics, transitions, and time-lapses to give this video the desired effect. I wanted viewers to feel the hype of his business through this video. During the editing process I tried to use a “rap music video mindset”.
